Ayahuasca microdosing drops are a controversial and relatively new concept. They contain the same fundamental components as traditional brew but in reduced quantities. Their active ingredients are N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and beta-carboline alkaloids like harmine, harmaline, and tetrahydroharmine. The roles of these key ingredients include:
- DMT (from Psychotria viridris or Diplopterys cabrerana): A classical psychedelic that naturally acts as a serotonin receptor agonist, causing altered states of consciuosness.
- Beta-carbolines (from Banisteriopsis caapi): These function as reversible monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). What is Ayahuasca Microdosing?

Some microdosing products on the market use only the Banisteriopsis caapi vine, which contains harmala alkaloids MAOIs but not DMT.

The effect was amazing, but I imagined it would be even more amazing when you consider that I noticed little to nothing with the first drop and had to take a second one.
